Digital representation is something that is converted into data that a computer can process. While the “natural” object is something that exists in nature or is physically made. For example, discussed in class, we talked about the Night Watch by Rembrandt. In this painting, there are an infinite number of colors, and someone could potentially paint the painting exactly how it looks today. There is no way to get rid of the noise. But recreating this painting might not have the same meaning and value. The Night Watch portrays a group of guardsmen to serve as defenders of their nation/city. Someone recreating this painting is not getting the same purpose out of it. They may be recreating the painting just to see how close they can replicate it or to help them move forward in the art industry. Another example was when we discussed AI and art in class. What is gained is that in AI, you can create art faster and get results within seconds. Yet, the actual creation is what is lost. People lose the ability to become creative when they rely on AI.
