Digitization refers to converting analog information into binary data. Everything that is going to be sent over the internet has to be through zeros and ones, which is the same for the cellular network. One example that sends text messages by coding electrical signals through wires is the telegraph. This was the beginning of a revolution in communications. One of the tradeoffs for the telegraph is that the person on the receiving end had to learn the blips. Before the telegraph, a letter posted from major states and cities took weeks and even months. While telegraphs, messages can be heard instantly.
